1 c. red wine
3 Hy-Vee large eggs
¼ c. canola oil
Red Wine and Berry Compote
1 c. red wine
10 oz. fresh mixed berries, such as blueberries, raspberries, and black berries
3 tbsp. Hy-Vee granulated sugar
½ tsp. lemon zest

Directions

  1. Donuts: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Lightly spray a 12-unit donut pan with Hy-Vee nonstick spray; set aside.
  2. Pour cake mix into bowl. Add wine, eggs, and canola oil. Stir to combine.
  3. Place 1/4 cup cake batter into each donut well. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes, run knife around edges of donuts, and gently remove from pan; cool completely.
  4. Compote: Place wine, berries, granulated sugar, and lemon zest into small saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and reduce to simmering. Cook 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mixture thickens. Place mixture in freezer to cool for about 10 minutes.
  5. When donuts and compote are completely cool, spoon 1 tablespoon compote over each donut.
