    Serves 36
    1 c. all-purpose flour
    ½ tsp. baking powder
    ½ tsp. baking soda
    1 ¼ c. uncooked quick oats
    ½ c. granulated sugar
    ¾ c. packed browned sugar
    ½ c. pecan pieces
    ½ c. milk chocolate baking chips
    ½ c. butter
    1 large egg
    ½ tsp. vanilla


    1. Attach a gift label to the front and an instruction label to the back of the jar. The instructions should read as follows: Stir together 1/2 cup melted butter, 1 egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Stir in the entire contents of the jar. Drop dough by teaspoons onto a baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 3 dozen.
    2. In a bowl mix together the flour, baking powder and baking soda; pour into a 1-quart jar. Layer oats, granulated sugar, brown sugar, pecans, and baking chips on flour mixture. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next.
    3. Place the lid and ring on the jar. Cover the top with a 5-inch paper circle (use spray or hot glue to adhere the paper to the lid) or a 5-inch sticker and finger pleat the paper around the edges. Tie with ribbon.
