¼ c. fresh cilantro, finely chopped | ||
1 fresh jalapeno, seeded and finely chopped | ||

½ tsp. Hy-Vee ground black pepper | ||

Directions
Cut 2 hamburger buns into 1/4-inch cubes. Combine cubed buns, beans, and tomato paste in a large bowl. Using a potato masher, mash to combine. Add ground beef, onion, cilantro, jalapeno, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, being sure not to over mix. Shape into 8 (3/4-inch-thick) patties.

Chile peppers contain volatile oils that can burn your skin and eyes. When working with hot peppers, wear protective gloves.Place patties on rack of a broiler pan; place in preheated oven. Broil 12 to 14 minutes or until done (160 degrees), flipping once halfway through.
Place burger on bun bottoms and top with avocado slices, ranch dressing, sour cream or yogurt, and/or salsa, if desired.
