Things To Grab
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl beat together shortening and sugar. Add eggs, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add to shortening mixture and beat until well combined.
- Dust work surface with powdered sugar. Roll dough 1/8-inch thick. Cut with cookie cutters and place on parchment paper-lined cookie sheet. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until bottoms just begin to brown. Remove cookies to a wire rack to cool. Frost with Sugar Cookie Frosting.
For Sugar Cookie Frosting, in a medium bowl, beat together 2 cups Hy-Vee powdered sugar, 1/4 cup Hy-Vee shortening, 3 tablespoons water and 1 teaspoon almond extract. Tint with food coloring, if desired. Spread frosting on cookies. To pipe additional frosting, let frosting on cookies harden before piping frosting on top. Sprinkle with decorating sugars and nonpareils.
