Directions
Lightly dust a clean work surface with flour. Roll cookie dough to ¼-in. thickness.
Cut dough into heart shapes using a 2½- to 3-in.-wide heart-shape cookie cutter. Using a spatula, transfer hearts to prepared cookie sheet, placing about 2 in. apart. Reroll scraps if needed.
Bake, one cookie sheet at a time, for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are golden brown, rotating cookie sheet halfway through. Cool for 5 minutes on cookie sheets. Transfer cookies to a wire rack and cool completely.
Prepare Royal Icing. Tint as desired with food coloring gels. Immediate spoon different colored frostings into pastry bags fitted with a small round-shaped piping tip.
Flood center of cookies with flood-consistency frosting; let stand until completely set.
Pipe messages on cookies using stiff-consistency frosting; let stand until set.
