It's the tradition you look forward to all year long—Christmas cutout cookies. No matter how you shape them, this classic recipe will never go out of style.
Servings and Ingredients
Quantity | Ingredient | Add |
---|---|---|
2 c. Hy-Vee unsalted butter, at room temperature | ||
4 c. Hy-Vee granulated sugar | ||
4 Hy-Vee large eggs | ||
1 c. Hy-Vee 2% milk | ||
8 ½ c. Hy-Vee all-purpose flour | ||
2 tsp. Hy-Vee baking soda |
Directions
- In a large bowl, beat butter until smooth. Add sugar and mix well. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Mix in milk until incorporated. In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking soda. Slowly add to creamed mixture. Cover and refrigerate overnight.*
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Working in batches, turn chilled dough out on a very floured surface, pressing ball of dough down and flipping to flour each surface multiple times (about 1/2 cup to 1 cup extra flour may be needed). Using rolling pin, roll to about 1/4- to 1/2-inch thick. Cut into desired shapes. Transfer to parchment-lined cookie sheet, using metal spatula if needed. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or just until edges become golden brown. Cool on wire rack.
- *Test Kitchen Tip: Divide dough into 2 bowls before refrigerating. It's best to work in small batches when rolling dough out, and separating dough in half is easier before dough sets in refrigerator.
