    1 ½ lbs. lean ground beef
    1 ½ c. chopped onion
    6 c. water
    4 cube(s) beef bouillon
    2 c. peeled, sliced carrots
    1 ½ c. chopped celery
    ¾ c. chopped green pepper
    ⅓ c. barley
    1 tsp. salt
    3 bay leaves
    ¼ c. ketchup
    1 (28 oz) can tomatoes, undrained and chopped
    1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce

    Directions

    1. Brown ground beef with onion in a large pot. Drain.
    2. Stir in water, beef bouillon, carrots, celery, green pepper, barley, salt, bay leaves, ketchup, tomatoes and tomato sauce. Bring to a boil.
    3. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 1 hour or until vegetables and barley are tender.
    4. Remove bay leaves before serving.
