8 c. sliced apples | ||
¾ to 1 c. sugar | ||

1 c. powdered sugar | ||
3 to 4 tsp milk |
Directions
- Combine flour and salt. Cut in shortening.
- Beat egg yolk in measuring cup. Add enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid. Mix well.
- Stir egg/milk mixture into flour mixture.
- On floured surface, roll half the dough to form a 12-by-17-inch rectangle. Fit dough into and up sides of a 10-1/2-by-15-inch (jelly roll) baking pan. Top dough with apple slices.
- Combine sugar, cinnamon and a little flour. Sprinkle on apples.
- Roll remaining dough to form a 10-1/2-by-15-1/2-inch rectangle. Place dough over apples. Seal edges and cut slits in top.
- Beat egg white until frothy. Brush on crust.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes.
- Combine powdered sugar and 3 to 4 teaspoons milk. Drizzle on warm bars.
