    ¾ c. Hy-Vee unsalted butter
    1 ½ c. Hy-Vee sugar, divided
    ¼ c. mild molasses
    1 Hy-Vee large egg
    2 c. Hy-Vee flour
    2 tsp. Hy-Vee baking soda
    1 tsp. Hy-Vee cinnamon
    ½ tsp. ground cloves
    ½ tsp. Hy-Vee ginger
    ½ tsp. Hy-Vee salt

      Directions

      1. Melt butter and let cool. Beat butter and 1 cup sugar. Add molasses and egg. Beat until smooth.
      2. In separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt. Add to wet ingredients and mix until incorporated. Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
      3. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll in remaining 1/2 cup sugar. Place 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Flatten slightly.
      4. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Cool completely on wire racks before storing in an air-tight container.
