Hy-Vee to Host Pop-Up COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics During Upcoming Barnstormers Games

May 17, 2021 | News & Press Releases

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (May 17, 2021) — Hy-Vee, Inc. announces today that in partnership with the Iowa Barnstormers and Iowa Events Center, it will host COVID-19 vaccination clinics during two Iowa Barnstormers games at Wells Fargo Arena – one for the general public, and one for game ticketholders.

The first clinic will begin at 5 p.m., Saturday, May 22 before the Iowa Barnstormers vs. Duke City Gladiators game, and will end at 7 p.m. The clinic will be held at a Hy-Vee Healthy You Mobile set up in the parking lot north of Wells Fargo Arena. This clinic is open to the public.

A second vaccination clinic will begin at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 29 inside Wells Fargo Arena before the Iowa Barnstormers vs. Bismarck Bucks game, and will end at 8 p.m. This event is for game ticketholders only.

No appointment will be required for either clinic, and individuals will be able to choose between the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine or Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine. Pfizer-BioNTech is available for individuals 12 years of age and older and requires two doses, and the Janssen vaccine is available for individuals 18 years of age and older and requires only one dose. Individuals who receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine can receive their second dose of the vaccine at their local Hy-Vee Pharmacy 21 days after their first dose. Those 17 and younger receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine must have a parent or guardian with them to provide consent.

It is recommended (but not required) that vaccine recipients bring the following to their vaccination: insurance card (if they have insurance) and Medicare Part B red, white and blue card (if Medicare recipient); and photo ID. Masks are required. If individuals do not have insurance, they can still be vaccinated.

“As we continue our efforts to make the COVID-19 vaccine more accessible throughout the Des Moines community, we are proud to announce our latest partnership with the Iowa Barnstormers,” said Jen Kopriva, district store director of the Ankeny North Hy-Vee. “We believe these vaccination efforts will help us move one step closer to putting an end to this pandemic.”

“We appreciate Hy-Vee for providing easy access to the vaccine for our loyal fan base,” said Juli Pettit, general manager of the Iowa Barnstormers. “We look forward to getting back to a point where all of our fans feel safe and comfortable gathering together in the stands at Wells Fargo Arena to cheer on the Barnstormers, and we believe these vaccination efforts are leading the path.”
