Hy-Vee Celebrates 1-Million-Mile Driver Elmer Klataske

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Nov. 19, 2021) — Hy-Vee, Inc. announces today that Elmer Klataske from the Chariton Distribution Center has reached the 1-million-mile mark for consecutive miles driven without a preventable accident. Klataske will become a member of the Hy-Vee Road of Gold Hall of Fame. 

On Saturday, Nov. 6, Klataske reached 1 million miles just outside of Chariton on his way to the Cherokee Distribution Center with a shuttle load. He is Chariton’s 96th driver to reach the milestone.

Klataske began his career at the Chariton Distribution Center in 1994, working in grocery, frozen and produce before becoming a truck driver in 2000.

The Hy-Vee Road of Gold program honors drivers who have achieved safe miles driven with a variety of gifts and a personalized gold- (1-million-mile safe driver) or black- (2-million-mile safe driver) painted Hy-Vee tractor to drive for five years.
