AMES, Iowa (May 19, 2026) — The helpful smile of a local Hy-Vee employee is now featured on the side of a semi-trailer to honor the more than 45 years of service he has dedicated to the company.

Mike Haas’ picture was unveiled Tuesday morning during a celebration outside the Lincoln Center Hy-Vee in Ames. Haas serves as a part-time pharmacy technician at the Huxley Hy-Vee Pharmacy.

Haas first joined Hy-Vee in 1978 in Waterloo while attending college. Throughout his tenure, Haas has held a variety of roles at eight different Hy-Vee locations. No matter the position, Haas said he has always focused on providing outstanding customer service.

“Serving people has always been me, I like people,” Haas said. “You get a completely different perspective on what it is to take care of customers in a grocery store compared to a pharmacy.”

Hy-Vee first started featuring long-serving employees on semi-truck wraps in 1997, and it has since become a cherished tradition at the company.
