Amanda Jochum

Amanda Jochum, RD, LMNT, obtained her bachelor's degree in nutritional science and dietetics from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She completed her dietetic internship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Amanda has a wide range of expertise, including weight management, diabetes, heart disease, food allergies and pediatric nutrition. She also provides assistance with planning and preparing healthy meals for families. Amanda was awarded the Nutrition Educator of the Year from the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council of Nebraska in 2008 and the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year from the Nebraska Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2013. Amanda sees the combination of nutrition promotion with a grocery store as an opportunity to provide hands-on nutrition and is available to provide realistic ways to make healthy eating a part of a person's daily routine. Amanda is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Nebraska Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on the state and district level. Amanda has been with Hy-Vee since 2006.          

Store Dietitian General Hours:
Monday through Friday - 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (later evening hours by appointment); Some Saturdays - 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Please note: schedule may vary due to nutrition programs, appointments or community events.

One-on-one nutrition counseling is for you if you're looking for personalized, detailed consultations with the dietitian. Your Hy-Vee dietitians will do an assessment, recommendations, and a menu plan during your first session. Follow-up sessions are highly recommended to allow for time to work on completing all your nutrition and health goals. Comprehensive Nutrition Assessment – To provide your dietitian with your medical and nutrition background, your food likes/dislikes, allergies, intolerances and nutrition concerns to allow for your dietitian to customize a nutrition plan specifically for you.

Healthy Nutrition Resources – Shopping assistance, recipes and on-line resources

Super Shopper - $62.50: Includes one-on-one nutrition counseling session (30 minutes) and personalized shopping tour with a 5% discount on your grocery purchases the day of your tour.

Getting Healthy - $125.00: Includes one-on-one nutrition counseling session (30 minutes), two (15-minute) follow-up sessions and a personalized shopping tour with a 5% discount on your grocery purchases the day of your tour.

Making A Change - $250.00: Includes one-on-one nutrition counseling session (1 hour), four (15 minute) follow-up sessions and a personalized shopping tour with a personalized shopping tour with a 5% discount on your grocery purchases the day of your tour.

Shop for Health Tours - complimentary by appointment
Whether you are shopping to control diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, food allergies or just want you family to eat healthier, your 156th & Maple Hy-Vee dietitian Amanda have experience and practical ideas to help you. This is a free service, but does require an appointment. Contact Amanda to schedule your Shop for Health store tour.

Group Shop for Health Tours - complimentary by appointment
Whether you are part of a weight loss or wellness group, a women's group or want to take a class on a field trip, this is a prime learning opportunity where the aisles are the best classroom. A Shop for Health store tour can be personalized to meet your group's needs and can be made to fit your schedule. Groups of 10 or fewer are preferred. Cooking Classes
Anyone can learn to cook! Your Hy-Vee dietitians Amanda offer classes to help all ages learn a variety of skills and provide recipes for you to try at home. Check the 156th & Maple Hy-Vee store's website for your Hy-Vee dietitian's class offerings at or call Amanda to discuss your group's needs.

Community Wellness Presentations
If you would like your Hy-Vee dietitians Amanda to speak to your group on a specific wellness or nutrition topic, please contact them for pricing, topic ideas and scheduling. Presentations can range from 30 minutes to one hour.

Metabolic Testing - $65 By appointment
Do you need help losing weight or getting past the dreaded plateau? If you do, then come in and get your metabolic rate measured. This painless, yet in-depth test will measure your resting metabolic rate and tell you how many calories you burn per day. Your Hy-Vee dietitian Amanda will be doing private testing in their office by the pharmacy. You must avoid eating, drinking and exercise at least 4 hours prior to testing. Avoid nicotine at least 2 hours prior to testing. Contact Amanda for details or questions and to schedule your personal 30-minute appointment.

Cholesterol Screening - $45 By appointment
With a quick finger-stick, you can receive your total lipid panel (cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides) and blood glucose in just 15 minutes. For accurate results, please fast for 10 to 12 hours prior to the screening but do drink plenty of water. Body-fat Percentage - $10 By appointment

Corporate Wellness Programing - by appointment
Did you know research has found that if people know their numbers (cholesterol, weight, body mass index), they tend to be more proactive in taking care of their own health? Contact Amanda or Laura if you'd like her to come to your company to do cholesterol screenings, metabolic testing, weight loss classes or a series of nutrition presentations. Nutrition education and intervention are effective ways to improve health and save money on healthcare costs. Call or email your Hy-Vee dietitian to discuss your company's wellness goals.

Girl Scout and Boy Scout Store Tours & Nutrition Badges - $10/child
Did you know that your Hy-Vee dietitians are here to help promote healthy eating for your Scout troop? Your Hy-Vee dietitian will lead activities to help your Scouts earn nutrition-related badges. For more information and to schedule a class, please contact your Hy-Vee dietitian Amanda.

Begin - Healthy Lifestyle and Weight Management Program - $290/person
Join Hy-Vee dietitians Amanda to complete this 10-week individualized program which focuses on nutrition education through a variety of topics. The goal of this program is to help individuals develop new attitudes, set goals and learn skills for healthy, pleasurable living.

The following courses are completed over any 10-week period:

Session 1 - Introduction to the Program and Biometric Screening (30-45 minutes)

Session 2 - Portion Distortion and Volumize Your Plate (15-30 minutes)

Session 3 - Nutrition Store Tour (45 minutes)

Session 4 - Importance of Exercise (15-30 minutes)

Session 5 - Consultation with Measurements (15-30 minutes)

Session 6 - Hidden Fats and Sugars/Reading Food Labels (15-30 minutes)

Session 7 - Disease Prevention (15-30 minutes)

Session 8 - Healthy Cooking and Baking (15-30 minutes)

Session 9 - Emotional Eating, Plateaus and Weight Maintenance (15-30 minutes)

Session 10 - Consultation with Biometric Screening (30 minutes)

By meeting with a dietitian every week for 10 weeks, you are able to stay accountable and on track to reach your nutrition goals!
