Watertown Native Joins the Hy-Vee Hall of Fame

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Jan. 9, 2019) — Watertown, South Dakota, native Dan Gubbins was named to the Hy-Vee Hall of Fame in December. Gubbins, group vice president of IT operations, was recently inducted as the 2018 Officer of the Year, Administration, at the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting.

Gubbins was nominated for this honor by his peers, who spoke of his organization and methodical leadership style that allows him to juggle multiple large projects at any given time. Gubbins’ depth of knowledge is instrumental to the supply chain and his understanding of supply chain operations is critical. He is a strong leader who develops an effective team and takes on additional responsibility without question.

Hy-Vee Chairman, CEO and President Randy Edeker commended Gubbins’ professional demeanor and being a leader in IT operations.

“Dan’s leadership and great attitude is infectious,” Edeker said. “He is dedicated, hard-working and will do anything to help Hy-Vee succeed.” 

Gubbins started his Hy-Vee career in Watertown, South Dakota, holding a variety of positions including assistant shift manager and shift manager for seven years. In 1998, Gubbins transferred to Brookings and moved to inventory manager and then manager of store operations. In 2000, Gubbins moved to the West Des Moines office as a member of the IT department. He was promoted to retail inventory analyst in 2001. That same year, he earned the position of assistant director of retail inventory systems. In 2002, he was promoted to director of retail inventory systems. In 2011, he took the role of director of merchandising, center store. Two years later, Gubbins was promoted to assistant vice president of merchandising. He moved back to IT as assistant vice president of supply chain technology in 2016 and took on the role of assistant vice president of IT operations in 2017. Gubbins was promoted to his current position of group vice president of IT operations in early 2018. 

Gubbins graduated from Watertown High School and received a bachelor’s degree in business economics at South Dakota State University in Brookings.
