Marshalltown Hy-Vee Renovations Near Completion

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Sept. 2, 2020) — Hy-Vee, Inc. announces today the near completion of its extensive renovations to its Marshalltown location. Hy-Vee has invested more than $3 million in updates both inside and outside the store – without financial support from outside funding sources – to best serve its customers.
“Our Marshalltown store is one of the most popular locations we have in our Hy-Vee region, and we’ve been very proud to support Marshalltown and its residents for many years,” said Mary Fuhrman, senior vice president of Hy-Vee’s north region. “We’re really looking forward to unveiling these enhancements and our expanded product selections to our customers and serving them with our familiar helpful smiles.”
The remodeling, which touches every part of the Marshalltown Hy-Vee food store, began in early 2020 and is expected to wrap up by the end of September. The updated store includes new food service offerings, updated signage and décor, an expanded candy department and more. A new Hy-Vee Market Grille Express offers a variety of fast-casual meal options for busy customers, and the Mia Pizza location will offer customers the chance to create their favorite pizza with fresh ingredients, baked fresh in a wood-fired oven in just six minutes.
The Marshalltown Hy-Vee opened its doors for the first time on May 1, 1963, at the intersection of Olive and Center streets. The store manager at the time was Ron Pearson, who later became Hy-Vee’s second chairman, CEO and president. The Marshalltown store was first remodeled in 1972, when it was expanded to accommodate a bakery and deli department. It was remodeled again in 1979. Then in 1994, the Marshalltown Hy-Vee relocated to 802 South Center Street. It was remodeled in 2007, adding a wine and spirits department. The adjacent Hy-Vee Gas location opened on July 1, 2002.
