Hy-Vee to Break Ground in Cherokee With Sen. Chuck Grassley

October 27, 2008 | News & Press Releases

West Des Moines, IA- Hy-Vee will kick-off the construction of a new distribution center in Cherokee when Sen. Chuck Grassley breaks ground at the site on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 12:30 p.m. Representatives from Hy-Vee and the Cherokee Area Economic Development Corporation, as well as county and city officials will also be present.

WHAT: Ground breaking ceremony

WHEN: Tuesday, October 28
12:30 p.m.

WHERE: Cherokee Distribution Center
1010 Riverview Dr., Cherokee, Iowa

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

The 230,000-square-foot warehouse will house dry grocery items and general merchandise products. The estimated $17 million project is expected to be completed in approximately 10 months. The warehouse will create 10 to 12 new jobs over the next three years.

Hy-Vee is expanding in Cherokee rather than building a new warehouse elsewhere after a supply chain analyst, hired by the company, found the current geographic locations of its stores in relation to its distribution centers in Cherokee, Chariton and Ankeny were adequate. The additional space was needed in Cherokee as overflow of product has been pushed into outside sheds and trailers.

We hope you will join us Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. to meet with Sen. Chuck Grassley, local dignitaries and Hy-Vee officials to learn more about the Cherokee project. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the numbers above.
