West Des Moines, IA (Grassroots Newswire) -- Officials with Hy-Vee Inc. today announced the purchase of Medicap Pharmacy located at 201 South 16th St. in Clarinda. The pharmacy will remain at its current location and operate as a satellite pharmacy of the Clarinda Hy-Vee store beginning Monday, January 12.

The company also announced plans to remodel the Clarinda store, which will include adding a pharmacy department. When the remodel is complete, the satellite drug store will close and those prescription files will be moved to the grocery store. Plans for the Clarinda store remodel are still in the drawing stage and a construction timetable has not been established yet.

Steve Mowery, the drug store's owner, said he's decided to partner with Hy-Vee because small town pharmacies are very vulnerable in these shifting economic times. "It's is in the best interest of our patients and staff to be a part of an organization as stable as Hy-Vee so that the pharmacy business can remain strong in Clarinda well into the future," Mowery said. "Our customers and staff expect and deserve stability and that's exactly what they can count on now." All Medicap employees, including Mowery, will continue working at the store as part of the Hy-Vee family.

Jim Carney, Clarinda Hy-Vee store director, said he's dedicated to making sure Medicap customers continue to receive the impeccable service they've become accustomed to. "The only thing that will change is the sign above the door," said Carney. "Customers will see the same familiar faces behind the counter and receive the same personal care they expect," Carney said.

Customers will also receive additional benefits like an extensive low-cost generic drug program. "The ultimate goal is make sure new customers and those who have been with us for years get their medication as easily as possible and get feeling better sooner," said Carney.

Hy-Vee has expanded its generic drug program to include a 90-day supply of medicine for $10. The pharmacy also offers a 30-day supply of 400 generic drugs at a cost of $4 per prescription. The generic supply list includes antibiotics and drugs that treat ailments such as allergies, asthma, arthritis, diabetes, cholesterol and digestive issues.
