FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEST DES MOINES, IA – Officials with Hy-Vee, Inc. today announced plans to build a Hy-Vee store in Winterset, Iowa.

Hy-Vee is seeking approval from the City of Winterset for construction of a supermarket at the southeast corner of North John Wayne Drive and Mills Street, on a site occupied by the former Gold Buffet restaurant. Hy-Vee intends to build a 35,000-square-foot store that would include a pharmacy, full-service meat department, prepared foods and a wine and spirits store.

“We’re excited about the prospect of locating a Hy-Vee store in Winterset,” said Jen Kopriva, assistant vice president of Hy-Vee’s North Central District. “Many residents have shopped in our stores, and they let us know they’d love to have a Hy-Vee closer to home. This is a tremendous opportunity for Hy-Vee and the city to bring additional services, new jobs and economic development to the community.”

Hy-Vee has been working with the Madison County Development Group to prepare plans for submittal to the City Council in early April. If plans are approved and necessary site work is completed, construction of the store could begin as early as this fall, with an opening in 2014.

The new Winterset Hy-Vee will be a full-service supermarket, offering a large selection of fresh produce, meat, dairy, frozen foods and grocery items; a HealthMarket department showcasing natural and organic products and foods for special dietary needs; a pharmacy with drive-up service; a wine & spirits shop; a bakery; and a food court that includes Hy-Vee Kitchen, Chinese Express, Italian Express, delicatessen and salad bar options for dining in or carrying out.

Kopriva said the proposed Winterset Hy-Vee represents an investment of $5-6 million in the local economy and will create about 175 new full- and part-time jobs.
