Nina Struss, RD, LDN, completed her Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from Western Illinois University and her dietetic internship with Tri-County Health Department in Greenwood Village, Colorado. She began her nutrition career in the Denver suburbs as a dietitian for the WIC program and as an outpatient dietitian for a hospital in Muscatine, Iowa.
Nina is a licensed dietitian in Illinois and is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Illinois Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine dietetics practice group. She is past president of the Mississippi Valley Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and has been awarded as Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year. Most recently, Nina became a recipient of the Ronald D. Pearson Citizenship Award, one of the highest employee honors in Hy-Vee, for her dedication to community service.
Nina makes regular appearances as a nutrition expert on television and in print media. She has been featured in the local newspaper for her work with the Milan Hy-Vee One Step Garden program.
Nina believes a healthy lifestyle is more than just the foods we choose to consume. She is dedicated to assisting customers with a mind-body approach to a healthier lifestyle through education on emotional eating, stress reduction and a whole foods approach. Hy-Vee One Step Garden Program
The Hy-Vee One Step garden and cooking program will begin its fourth season in the spring of 2015. This innovative and forward-thinking program was implemented by Nina Struss at the Milan Hy-Vee. In 2012, the Hy-Vee One Step garden program began with the help of the University of Illinois Extension and a partnership with Ridgewood Elementary School.
The main goals of the program are:
- Children's making healthier choices through increased fruit and vegetable intake.
- Teaching the connection of fresh food and good health.
- Teaching preparation of healthier meals.
- Reinforcing positive perceptions of healthy foods.

BEGIN Healthy Lifestyle and Weight Management Program - $290
BEGIN is a healthy lifestyle and weight management program led by your Hy-Vee dietitian. In each of these one-on-one programs, Nina will work with you to promote healthy lifestyle changes while emphasizing weight loss, exercise and eating for good health. Additionally, the 10-session program includes a cholesterol and blood glucose screening at the beginning and end of the program to help you track your progress.

Community Presentations - Prices vary
Nutrition presentations are great for employee wellness programs, schools, churches and more. Nina will come to your business or organization to present a nutrition topic designed for your group’s interests. Popular topics include diabetes, quick and healthy cooking, packing a healthy lunch, shopping on a budget, “superfoods” and lowering cholesterol.

Scout Adventures - Prices Vary
Contact Nina for more information on how your Boy or Girl Scout troop can earn a badge in health and wellness at your Milan Hy-Vee. Classes include nutrition information and recipes for the kids to prepare.
