Hy-Vee Antacid Tablets

How Can It Help?

Antacid is often used to treat heartburn (chest pain, burning sensation in the chest, acidic taste in the mouth), indigestion and upset stomach that occurs infrequently. It works by lowering the amount of acid in the stomach.

How Should I Use It?

For self–treatment of heartburn, chew 2 to 3 tablets as symptoms occur, or as directed by a doctor. Make sure to chew well before swallowing, either after a meal or during onset of heartburn. Antacids are also available in liquid form (which works much faster than chewable tablets); make sure to shake the bottle well before each dose.

Important Considerations

  • Do not take for symptoms that persist for more than 2 weeks unless advised by a doctor. Do not use the maximum dosage for more than 2 weeks except under the supervision of a doctor. A medical evaluation may be needed to determine if there is a more serious condition.
  • This is an as–needed medication for those experiencing infrequent heartburn (example: eating spicy food) who want immediate relief.
  • Common side effects include constipation, gas and burping.
  • If taking other medications, it is best to take them either 1 hour before or 4 hours after taking antacids.
  • Do not use and consult your doctor immediately if you have heartburn with lightheadedness, sweating, dizziness or chest pain. Do not use if you have trouble or pain swallowing food, vomiting with blood, or bloody or black stools.
  • Ask your pharmacist or doctor before using if you have kidney disease, high blood pressure or heart disease.

Reduce Food Waste

Leftovers are a great way to use foods in your fridge that otherwise would go to waste. Try to plan one meal per week that involves leftovers.
