How Can It Help?

Bismuht salicylate is used to treat nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, and diarrhea on an as-needed basis. This drug is also designed to help reduce gas. It works by coating the walls of the GI tract and binding to any bacteria or toxin, which is then eliminated through the stool. 

How Should I Use It?Bismuth Salicylate

Shake well before use. Adults and children 12 years and older. Take 30 ml (2 tbsp) every 1/2 hour to 1 hour as needed. DO NOT exceed 8 doses per 24 hours. Drink plenty of clear fluids to help prevent dehydration caused by diarrhea.

Important Considerations

  • Teenagers and children should not use this product if recovering for chickenpox or flu-like symptoms. If changes in behavior occur, consult a physician. This may be an early sign of a rate illness known as Reye's syndrome. 
  • Do not take if you are allergic to salicylate (this includes asprin) or if you have an ulcer, bleeding problem or black stool. A darkening of stool or tongue may appear but this is temporary and considered harmless.
  • STOP THERAPY if diarrhea lasts more than two days, symptoms are worsening or ringing in the ears occurs, AND contact a physician.
  • Ask your pharmacist or doctor before use of this product if you are taking any drug for arthritis, gout, diabetes or blood thinning. Ask a doctor if you currently have a fever or mucus in the stool.
