There's a sea of difference in quality of seafood

Hy-Vee is one of the only retailers in the nation with its own U.S. Department of Commerce (USDC) lot Inspector to ensure only the best seafood makes it to your store. And look no further than your Hy-Vee Seafood counter for expert cooking tips and recipes for crab, shrimp and fish.

At Hy-Vee, Alaska crab is king

Harvested wild from the icy, clean waters of the far north, Alaska crab is the best, the sweetest and the meatiest crab you’ll find. Alaska’s fisheries lead the world in their commitment to responsible, sustainable fishing practices – and Alaska seafood exceeds the standard for flavor and health benefits, and is antibiotic- and hormone-free.

Superior and Sustainable

Just as fishing is ingrained in the history of Alaska, so is
commitment to protecting the environment. When Alaska
was chartered as a state in 1959, regulations to preserve
its natural resources were written directly into the state’s
constitution. That’s why Hy-Vee is proud to partner with
Trident Seafoods and its flagship boat, the Billikin, to
provide customers with superior, sustainably harvested
Alaskan crab.

Hy-Vee and Alaska Seafood

When Chuck Bundrant landed his first job as a deckhand in the ’60s, he had no idea life at sea would lead him to revolutionize crab fishing in Alaska. Working as a king crabber, Bundrant grew frustrated that boats had to stop crabbing when they were full and leave the best fishing grounds to unload their catch for a buyer. He had also worked in processing plants, so he developed a plan to allow both harvesting and processing to happen at sea. Bundrant’s dream gave life to a new company, Trident Seafoods, and a new vessel, the Billikin—the first modern catcher-processor capable of harvesting, processing and freezing crab on board. Forty years later, the 135-foot Billikin remains the flagship of Trident’s fleet, and continues to brave the Bering Sea to bring the best Alaskan crab from the sea to your local Hy-Vee.

Wild Louisiana Gulf Shrimp is a big deal

When you buy fresh Wild Louisiana Gulf Shrimp at Hy-Vee, you’re not only supporting sustainable fishing, but also a way of life that’s been handed down for generations. The tradition of catching, cooking and eating shrimp runs deep in the veins of the fishermen who trawl the coastal waters of Louisiana to bring the freshest shrimp to your table.
