¼ c. Hy-Vee plain bread crumbs
2 tsp. chopped fresh jalapeno pepper (about 1/2 jalapeno)
1 tsp. Emeril's Essence
1 clove(s) garlic, chopped
2 hamburger buns, split and lightly toasted
Fresh pico de gallo and lettuce leaves, optional

  1. Preheat a gas or charcoal grill for direct heat over medium heat.
  2. Drain black beans, reserving 1/4 cup black bean liquid. Rinse and drain remaining black beans.
  3. In a food processor fitted with metal blade, combine black beans, reserved 1/4 cup liquid, bread crumbs, jalapeno, Essence and garlic. Process until beans are chunky, about 10 one-second pulses. Shape into two 4-inch-diameter patties.
  4. Grill burgers over medium heat until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees, about 5 minutes per side.
  5. Serve burgers on toasted buns. If desired, top with pico and lettuce leaves.
