Upside-Down Pear Gingerbread

2 tbsp. Hy-Vee margarine, melted | ||
⅓ c. packed Hy-Vee brown sugar | ||
9 Hy-Vee maraschino cherries | ||
9 small pear halves, peeled, cored | ||
1 (14.5 oz) package gingerbread mix | ||
1 c. water |
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Pour margarine into the bottom of a 9-by-9-inch baking pan. Sprinkle brown sugar over margarine.
- Arrange pear halves, core-side-down on top of brown sugar. Slip a cherry under the wide end of the pear. Cherry should sit easily into the cored hole in pear.
- Combine gingerbread mix and water according to package directions. Pour over pear halves.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool for 5 minutes. Carefully invert cake onto a serving plate.
