1yellow onion, chopped
1(1-lbs.) pkg. 90%-lean ground beef
3 tbsp.That’s Smart! chili powder
1 tbsp.Hy-Vee ground cumin
1 tsp.That’s Smart! seasoned salt
1(28-oz.) can That’s Smart! diced tomatoes
1(8-oz.) can That’s Smart! tomato sauce
1 c.That’s Smart! chicken broth
1(15.5-oz.) can That’s Smart! kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 tsp.That’s Smart! brown sugar, optional
Desired toppers, such as: sour cream, Cheddar cheese, and/or sliced green onions

Directions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large stockpot over medium-high heat. Add onion, saute 2 to 4 minutes or until softened. Add ground beef. Cook, breaking up large chunks, until no longer pink (165 degrees). Drain; return onion and beef to skillet. Stir in chili powder, cumin, and seasoned salt. Cook 1 to 2 minutes or until spices are toasted.

  2. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, and kidney beans. Bring to a boil; reduce heat to medium. Simmer; covered, 10 minutes or until heated through. If desired, stir in brown sugar. Divide chili between serving bowls and top as desired.
