    3 tbsp. sugar
    1 ½ tbsp. water
    ¼ tsp. Chinese 5-spice powder or allspice
    ⅛ tsp. ground black pepper
    1 c. Roasted Soy Nuts

    Directions

    1. In 1-quart microwave-safe dish, stir together sugar and water. Microwave on full power for 3 minutes, stirring halfway through, until mixture is foamy and getting thick.
    2. Add 5-spice powder, black pepper and soy nuts. Stir quickly to coat the nuts evenly. Be careful! Sugar mixture will be hot.
    3. Microwave for 1 minute and 15 seconds more (75 seconds). Spread nuts onto a nonstick or lightly greased baking sheet to cool. If nuts stick together, press lightly to break apart.
