Servings and Ingredients

Ingredients
Serves 8
QuantityIngredientAdd
2 tbsp. Hy-Vee unsalted butter
4 green onions, sliced
1 (1-lbs.) pkg. ground breakfast sausage
¼ c. Hy-Vee all-purpose flour
½ tsp. Hy-Vee garlic powder
½ tsp. Hy-Vee dried thyme
½ tsp. Hy-Vee salt
½ tsp. Hy-Vee ground black pepper
3 c. Hy-Vee 2% reduced-fat milk
1 (16-oz.) tube Hy-Vee jumbo buttermilk biscuits
Fresh thymes sprigs, for garnish

Things To Grab

  • 12-inch oven-proof skillet
  • Wooden spoon
  • Whisk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Heat butter in a 12-inch oven-proof skillet to medium-high heat. Add green onions and sauté 1 to 2 minutes or until fragrant. Add sausage to skillet and cook until no longer pink (165 degrees), about 5 minutes.

  2. Stir in flour, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Continue stirring and cooking for 1 to 2 minutes. Stir in milk all at once and bring back to a simmer. Continue simmering until thickened, about 3 minutes.

  3. Remove skillet from heat and immediately top with biscuits. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until gravy is thickened and biscuits are golden brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving. If desired, garnish with fresh thyme sprigs.
