    Servings and Ingredients

    Ingredients
    Serves 25
    QuantityIngredientAdd
    3 tbsp. Hy-Vee unsalted butter
    7 tbsp. Hy-Vee all-purpose flour
    3 tbsp. turkey drippings
    3 c. Swanson chicken broth
    Kosher salt, to taste

    Things To Grab

    • Large saucepan
    • Whisk
    • Fine-mesh strainer

    Directions

    1. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Slowly whisk in flour. Continue cooking until flour turns golden brown and smells nutty, being careful not to burn.

    2. Add turkey drippings. Stir in broth, 1 cup at a time, whisking constantly. Bring mixture to boiling before adding additional cups of broth. Once all liquid has been added, bring to a boil. Season, to taste, with salt. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer. Serve warm.

      Hyvee Culinary Expert Tip
For an extra depth of flavor, use as much of the leftover broth as you can from the turkey. This broth will have all of the flavors from the vegetables and fresh herbs. If you don’t have enough of leftover broth, make up the difference by using additional chicken broth.
