Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine pie crust mixes; prepare according to package directions. Divide pastry in half. Roll out one portion into a 15x10-inch rectangle. Using alphabet cookie cutters, cut out desired words; set aside.
Pies can be difficult to make (even our Test Kitchen thinks so). So, take it easy on yourself this Christmas and make our semi-homemade pie.
Servings and Ingredients
|3||(11-oz. each) pkgs. pie crust mixes|
|3||(21-oz. each) cans Hy-Vee cherry pie filling|
|1||Hy-Vee large egg, beaten|
Things To Grab
- Large bowl
- Rolling pin
- Small alphabet cookie cutters
- 15x10x1-inch sheet pan
- Small bowl
- Silicone pastry brush
Roll remaining portion into a 17x12-inch rectangle; line a 15x10x1-inch baking pan with pastry. Spoon cherry pie filling into pastry-lined pan. Trim pastry to 1/2-inch beyond edges of pan. Fold under extra pastry even with pan edge. Crimp as desired. Gently roll cutout pastry around a rolling pin, then carefully place it on top of the filling.
In a small bowl, combine egg and water with a whisk. Brush top of pastry with egg mixture. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until fruit filling is bubbly in center. Cool on wire cooling rack until completely cooled.
