4 c. cored and sliced apples
⅓ c. lemon juice
1 tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
1 tsp. cinnamon
¼ tsp. nutmeg
¼ c. gluten-free brown sugar or honey
½ c. apple juice, apple cider or water

Directions

  1. Prepare apples, dipping each slice into lemon juice to prevent discoloration. Do not discard lemon juice.
  2. Melt butter or margarine in a skillet or large pan with a cover.
  3. Place apple slices in the skillet.
  4. Sprinkle apples with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  5. Mix lemon juice with brown sugar or honey. Stir gently into apple mixture.
  6. Add just enough apple juice, apple cider or water to cover the bottom of the pan.
  7. Turn heat to low. Cover pan. Cook until apples are done, but not mushy, stirring gently every 5 minutes.
