8 cooking apples (Braeburn or Granny Smith), cored, peeled and chopped
½ c. Hy-Vee sugar
1 tbsp. Hy-Vee ground cinnamon
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Place apples in a 5-quart pot. Add sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla and just enough water to cover half the apples (to prevent a watery sauce).
  2. Bring apples to boiling; reduce heat and simmer until apples are soft.
  3. Hand-blend or mash apples in pot to desired consistency. Serve warm or cold.
