8 cooking apples (Braeburn or Granny Smith), cored, peeled and chopped | ||
½ c. Hy-Vee sugar | ||
1 tbsp. Hy-Vee ground cinnamon | ||
Juice of 1/2 lemon | ||
1 tsp. vanilla extract |
Directions
- Place apples in a 5-quart pot. Add sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, vanilla and just enough water to cover half the apples (to prevent a watery sauce).
- Bring apples to boiling; reduce heat and simmer until apples are soft.
- Hand-blend or mash apples in pot to desired consistency. Serve warm or cold.
