    1 c. margarine or butter, softened
    1 c. white sugar
    1 c. brown sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 c. uncooked oats
    ½ c. milled flaxseed*
    ½ tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 ½ c. chopped walnuts or almonds
    2 c. chocolate chips, optional

    Directions

    1. Cream margarine, white sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla and beat well.
    2. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, oats, milled flaxseed, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Stir into creamed mixture. Add walnuts and chocolate chips. Mix until blended.
    3. Form dough into 1-inch balls. Place balls on an ungreased cookie sheet, leaving 2 inches between cookies.
    4. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.
    5. *Either use purchased milled flaxseed, or grind whole flaxseed in a coffee grinder to a granular, free-flowing meal.
