    ⅛ tsp. Hy-Vee baking soda

    • Parchment paper
    • Hy-Vee nonstick cooking spray
    • Small nonstick skillet
    • Chopstick
    • Small circular disks
    • Cookie cutters

    Directions

    1. Line a rimmed baking pan with parchment paper; set aside. Spray the bottom of glass and desired cookie cutters with nonstick spray; set aside.

      Add sugar to a small nonstick skillet; tilt skillet for sugar to cover bottom. Heat over medium heat 4 to 5 minutes or until melted and lightly browned, stirring occasionally with a chopstick to prevent clumps.

    3. Remove from heat. Immediately stir in baking soda until dissolved and mixture slightly foams.

      Immediately pour the mixture into small circular disks in prepared baking pan. Let stand 20 to 30 seconds. Press down into a thin cookie using the bottom of the prepared glass. Immediately press prepared cookie cutter(s) into each cookie to form an outlined shape, being careful not to break the cookie or press all the way through.

    5. Cool completely in baking pan. Peel cookies from parchment paper; break off excess to form cookie shapes.
