    Creamy homemade mac and cheese is one of our favorite comfort foods. Dress up a Hy-Vee boxed mac and cheese by adding some ham and homemade buttery breadcrumbs.

    ¼ c. Hy-Vee salted butter, plus 1 tbsp. butter, melted
    ⅓ c. Hy-Vee 2% reduced-fat milk
    ½ (8-oz.) pkg. Hy-Vee cream cheese, chopped
    8 oz. Hy-Vee Deli Black Forest smoked ham, sliced 1/2-inch-thick and cubed
    1 slice(s) Hy-Vee white or wheat sandwich bread

    • 4 (5-inch each) cast iron skillets or 1 (8-inch) broiler-safe skillet

    Directions

    1. Preheat broiler on HIGH. Prepare shells-and-cheese dinner mix according to package directions using 1/4 cup butter and 1/3 cup milk. Stir in cream cheese with sauce packet. Heat and stir until cream cheese is melted. Stir in ham; remove from heat.

    2. Meanwhile, place bread in food processor; cover and process until bread becomes fine crumbs. Stir in 1 tablespoon melted butter.

    3. Transfer pasta-cheese mixture to 4 (5-inch each) cast iron skillets or 1 (8-inch) broiler-safe skillet. Top with buttered bread crumbs. Broil 6-inches from heat for 30 seconds or until crumbs are lightly toasted. Cool slightly before serving.
