    1 ½ c. milk
    1 c. oatmeal, uncooked
    1 c. raisins, optional
    ¼ c. sugar
    ¼ c. shortening
    2 tsp. salt
    1 packet(s) dry yeast
    ½ c. warm water
    1 egg
    4 ½ c. flour
    ½ c. sugar
    2 tbsp. cinnamon

    Directions

    1. Scald milk and pour over next 5 ingredients. Cool, then add 1 package yeast in 1/2 cup warm water, 1 egg and 4-1/2 cups flour.
    2. Knead or mix with spoon 10 minutes. Allow to rise. Punch down. Let rest for 10 minutes.
    3. Divide into 2 loaves. Roll out and spread with 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon. Roll and shape into loaf.
    4. Brush top with melted butter. Cut 3 slits in top. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees. May drizzle frosting over top when cooled.
