1 ½ c. milk | ||
1 c. oatmeal, uncooked | ||
1 c. raisins, optional | ||
¼ c. sugar | ||
¼ c. shortening | ||
2 tsp. salt | ||
1 packet(s) dry yeast | ||
½ c. warm water | ||
1 egg | ||
4 ½ c. flour | ||
½ c. sugar | ||
2 tbsp. cinnamon |
Directions
- Scald milk and pour over next 5 ingredients. Cool, then add 1 package yeast in 1/2 cup warm water, 1 egg and 4-1/2 cups flour.
- Knead or mix with spoon 10 minutes. Allow to rise. Punch down. Let rest for 10 minutes.
- Divide into 2 loaves. Roll out and spread with 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon. Roll and shape into loaf.
- Brush top with melted butter. Cut 3 slits in top. Bake 40 minutes at 350 degrees. May drizzle frosting over top when cooled.
