    Things To Grab

    • 2 medium saucepans
    • Whisk
    • Medium freezer-grade mixing bowl
    • electric mixer
    • serving dishes

    Directions

    1. Combine apple pie filling, apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, and nutmeg in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer. Simmer 5 to 10 minutes, or until thickened and bubbly.

    2. Whisk in orange zest, fresh ginger, and vanilla extract. Allow to simmer an additional 3 to 5 minutes, or until flavors have combined. Remove from heat and cool.

    3. Once mixture has cooled, add 2 cups of mixture and 4 cups softened ice cream to a medium freezer-grade mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat until well combined. Freeze for 1 to 2 hours or until firm.

    4. Meanwhile, combine butter, sugar, and salt in another medium saucepan over medium heat. Once sugar has browned and caramel has slightly thickened, remove from heat and add milk. Stir until combined and place back on heat until evenly combined.

      Hyvee Culinary Expert Tip
The milk may clump when added to the hot caramel. Don’t worry, once it is placed back on the heat, it will incorporate. Just make sure you don’t burn the milk when placing the mixture back on the heat.

    6. To serve, scoop ice cream into a serving dish, top with whiskey caramel sauce and any desired toppings.
