Cheese Poppers

Double dipping the cheese in egg whites and a bread crumb mixture creates an extra crunchy coating.

½ c. Hy-Vee plain bread crumbs | ||
2 tbsp. Hy-Vee panko bread crumbs | ||
2 tsp. chopped fresh thyme | ||
8 Hy-Vee light mozzarella string cheese | ||
2 Hy-Vee large eggs, lightly beaten | ||
1 tbsp. Hy-Vee flour | ||
Hy-Vee non-stick cooking spray | ||
1 c. Hy-Vee pizza sauce, warmed |
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside.
- In a shallow dish, combine bread crumbs and thyme. In two separate bowls, place eggs and flour. Cut each cheese stick into three pieces. Dip each piece into flour, then egg, then crumb mixture. Repeat dipping in egg and crumb mixture a second time. Arrange coated pieces on prepared baking sheet. Spray cheese poppers with non-stick cooking spray.
- Bake for 9 to 10 minutes or until cheese is softened. Serve with pizza sauce.
