|½ c. brandy, such as E&J Brandy|
|1 Honeycrisp apple, cored and thinly sliced, for garnish|

Place vanilla bean pod, cinnamon sticks, allspice, and cloves in the center of a double-thick, 6-inch square of 100-percent-cotton cheesecloth. Tie closed with clean kitchen string. Add bag to pot. Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and discard spice bag. Stir in brandy.
Serve cider in mugs. Garnish with apple slices and cinnamon sticks, if desired.
