Description

Purchase apples with some snap, such as Honeycrisp, to go with this tangy dip. The flavors are a tasty match, and part of the delight is the contrast in textures.

Servings and Ingredients

Ingredients
Serves 4
QuantityIngredientAdd
½ c. Hy-Vee granulated sugar
½ c. water
2 apples, sliced 1/8-inch thick and seeds removed
Goat Cheese Dip

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Grease a large baking sheet; set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat sugar and water over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and place apple slices in batches in liquid for about 20 seconds. Remove slices to cooling rack placed over paper towels. Discard any remaining liquid. Allow excess liquid to drip off and place slices on prepared baking sheet.
  3. Bake for 2 hours or until dry.* Cool chips completely on cooling rack. Serve chips with Goat Cheese Dip, if desired. Chips can be stored up to 1 week in an airtight container.
  4. *Test Kitchen Tip: If at the end of 2 hours, the chips are still soft, continue to bake in the oven for another 1 to 2 hours. Depending on how large the slices are and how watery the apples are, it might just take a longer. Apples should feel mostly dry and edges shriveled slightly when done.
