Clean dirt off the pumpkin with a sanitizing wipe or soap and water; dry. Use a serrated knife to cut a circular lid around the pumpkin stem. Clean out inside of pumpkin.

Directions
Choose the design you want to carve onto your pumpkin and print it out on plain paper. Use tape to secure the design to the smoothest, least-blemished side of the pumpkin.
Using a small knife or pushpin, carefully punch holes about 1/4-inch apart through the design and onto the surface of the pumpkin. Or, carefully use a knife to cut through the design and score the pumpkin.
remove the paper and trace over the design with a black permanent marker. Then use a sharp serrated knife to cut through the inside of the pumpkin, starting with the face and arms and removing pieces as you cut.
