Fish sticking to the grill? We know... it's happened to us, too. That's why we've come up with 5 easy techniques to keep your salmon from sticking.

  1. Keep the Skin on

Skin-on fillets work best for direct grilling because the skin helps hold the fish together and prevents sticking to the grill. Make sure to leave some space between the fillets to help the fish cook evenly.

  2. Make a Foil Pan

Shape "pans" made of heavy duty aluminum foil into 7-1/2-to-5-inch disposable aluminum pans. This makes clean-up a breeze, and aluminum foil doesn't stick to the grill.

  3. Cast Iron Grilling

That's right! Did you know your cast iron is grill-safe? Take advantage of your cast iron to help blacken the spices on your fish evenly. Just make sure to preheat your skillet. It's ready when a drop of water sizzles as soon as it hits the surface of the cast iron.

  4. Use a Grilling Plank

Grilling planks not only impart a subtle smoky flavor to the salmon while keeping it juicy, but they also don't stick to the grill! Try using mild woods such as cedar and alder when it comes to salmon.

  5. Utilize Citrus

Citrus and salmon pair naturally. Place a layer of lemon slices underneath the salmon for a bright flavor. The lemon slices also create a barrier between the grill and the salmon so it doesn't stick to the grill grates.
