    Directions

    1. Pick an Apple: You'll need about 5 or 6 apples per 11- or 12-ounce package of caramels. Wash and dry your apples before beginning.

If you're a sucker for the sweet-tart taste, go for Granny Smith or Braeburn varieties (two of our favorites). For a less tart apple, try Jonagold, Pink Lady, or Pippin.

    2. Apple with Wooden Skewers

Skewer the Apples: Use chopsticks or other food-safe skewers as sturdy handles.

    3. Caramel Apple Dipped in Caramel

Melt Caramels: Add unwrapped caramels to a medium saucepan with 2 tablespoons of water. Melt the caramels over medium heat. Alternatively, you can melt the caramels and water in a small slow cooker, or place them in a microwave-safe bowl with the water and cook on high for 2 to 3 minutes. Stop to stir every minute until candy is melted. Then one at a time, dip your apples into the caramel, turning slowly to coat.

    4. Caramel Apple Rolled in Chopped Walnuts

Coat in Toppings: Then roll each apple in toppings (such as candies or toasted nuts) or use your fingers to gently press the toppings onto the caramel coating. Place each apple on a parchment-lined sheet. When all the apples are done, chill them in the fridge until set. Mmm ... mmm!
