Description

Get ready for gowns, mortarboard hats, tassels and “Pomp and Circumstance” — it’s almost graduation season! We’re in party-planning mode, and we want to share our tips and tricks with you. Keep reading to learn how to throw the best bash for your graduate in 4 easy steps.

  1. Choose a Theme

The first step is also the most fun step — picking a theme! A theme sets the tone for the entire party, so let your grad choose one they'll love. You can go classic by selecting the colors of their soon-to-be alma mater, or you can be creative and base the theme on their personality or interests. We've rounded up 10 of our favorite unique party themes. After you've finalized the theme, pin down the date, time, location and guest list.

  2. Select the Food

Now on to the tastiest step — the food! Reach out to your local Hy-Vee catering team to place your order approximately one month in advance. They can walk you through options and help you decide how much to order based on your guest list. For light snacking, we recommend offering fruit and veggie trays and sandwich platters. Select from our delicious buffet and specialty bars if you're offering a full meal. Pair your cuisine with an easy homemade punch, and you're ready to party.

  3. Order the Cake

No celebration is complete without a cake! Our cake designers can create the custom confection of your dreams based on your grad’s interests. Think sports, hobbies, colors and more! Orders need to be placed one month in advance, so meet with your designer before then to finalize your idea. Round out your sweet display with cupcakes, cookies and more from the Hy-Vee Bakery.

  4. Choose the Decor

It’s time to give the party some pop with the creative decor! Choose a main focal point for the party, such as a balloon arch, photo booth, flowers or a sign — reach out to your local Hy-Vee Floral department about 6 weeks in advance to place your order. If you’re crafty, try creating a homemade number marquee with cardboard and string lights. Otherwise, pick up party-ready decor at your local Hy-Vee.
