Servings and Ingredients

Ingredients
Serves 48
QuantityIngredientAdd
1 (18.25-oz.) box cake mix, any flavor
1 ¼ c. ready-made canned frosting
3 lbs. yellow candy coating, such as Wilton Candy Melts
Assorted candy decorations

Things To Grab

  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Large bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • 48 lollipop sticks
  • Styrofoam

Directions

  1. Prepare cake according to package directions for a 9-by-13-inch baking pan. Cool completely.
  2. In a large bowl, crumble cake by hands. Stir in frosting and mix well. Roll mixture into 1-1/2-inch balls, about 1 rounded tablespoon each. Place on baking sheet and chill for several hours or freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Remove from freezer or refrigerator. Melt candy coating according to package directions. Dip the tip of a lollipop stick into the melted candy, then into the center of a cake ball. Dip the cake ball into melted candy to coat. Stick into a piece of Styrofoam until coating dries. Repeat with remaining cake balls.
  4. Decorate using melted candy coating as a glue to adhere candy to cake balls. [Editor's note: We used DecACake decorations for this photo.]
