Ground Turkey Recall

August 3, 2011 | News & Press Releases

WEST DES MOINES, IA – Hy-Vee supermarkets in eight states are participating in a voluntary recall of ground turkey products produced at a Cargill plant in Springdale, Arkansas.

Cargill today announced an immediate Class I voluntary recall of 36 million pounds of fresh and frozen ground turkey products produced at the Arkansas facility from February 20, 2011 through August 2, 2011 due to possible contamination from Salmonella Heidelberg. Cargill initiated this recall as a result of its own internal investigation, information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and an ongoing USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) investigation into multiple illnesses from Salmonella Heidelberg.

The Cargill website lists the specific ground turkey products subject to the recall. For Hy-Vee customers, the affected products are Honeysuckle White brand fresh ground turkey sold in trays or rolls, as well as fresh ground turkey purchased from the service meat case.

Customers who purchased these products with “Use or Freeze By” dates of 2/20/11 through 8/23/11 are asked to return opened or unopened packages to their local Hy-Vee store for a refund. Products identified as “fresh ground turkey breast” are not included in the recall.
