FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEST DES MOINES, IA – Officials with Hy-Vee, Inc. have announced plans to open a new store at 4th and Ansborough in Waterloo.

Hy-Vee intends to tear down the former Hometown Foods building at 4th and Ansborough, which it purchased earlier this year, and construct a 21,000-square-foot supermarket on the site. The new store will be a replacement for Hy-Vee’s current store at 306 Byron Avenue, an 11,900-square-foot facility Hy-Vee has occupied since 1969.

The new Hy-Vee store will offer customers many of the same products and services found at Hy-Vee’s larger stores in the market, including a food court featuring Hy-Vee’s Kitchen, Chinese Express and Italian Express restaurants and a dining area. Other amenities in the new store include a full-service meat department, a selection of wine and spirits and a Health Market department with natural and organic products and foods to meet special dietary needs.

Construction on the new store is expected to begin late this fall, with an opening planned for the late summer or early fall of 2011. Employees at the current Byron Avenue store will transfer to the new store once it opens, and Hy-Vee plans to hire additional workers to staff the new store as well.

Hy-Vee, Inc. is an employee-owned corporation operating 229 retail stores in eight Midwestern states. For 2009 the company recorded total sales of $6.4 billion, ranking it among the top 30 supermarket chains and the top 50 private companies in the United States.
