Dan started in the restaurant business when he was 15 years old. After three short months, he became a chef's assistant. Since then he has held almost every position in food service over the last 35 years, and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in hotel restaurant management. Dan has been a cook, executive chef and owner of his own deli catering company. He's prepared food for gatherings serving up to 5,000 guests; oversaw all food, beverage and vendors for the Madison Blues Festival; and owned and operated his own business preparing all foods from scratch. Overall he's responsible for opening four different businesses. Over the years, Dan has cooked for BB King, George Thorogood, the Dalai Lama, President Bill Clinton, WWF wrestlers, Kenny Rodgers, Marilyn Manson and several other high-profile celebrities. Dan's favorite foods to cook are comfort foods, and he enjoys making creations out of what's available.

Dan is now a retail chef at the Hy-Vee on Whitney Way in Madison. He contributes to the Chef's Creations case, and cooks for caterings and daily hot meal selections.
