University of Illinois Extension nutrition and wellness educator Kristin Bogdonas and Milan Hy-Vee dietitian Nina Struss, RDN, LDN have put together a fun, interactive monthly series that will focus on mind, body, spirit. Guest speakers from the community will present various health and fitness presentations along with a monthly nutrition topic and taste tests. The programs will take place at University of Illinois Extension, 321 W 2nd Ave., Milan, IL. The cost is $5 per person per class. (Children welcome.) Programs will be 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Here's what's coming up this month: A common myth is that you have to consume a lot of meat to build muscle. The proper balance of protein, carbohydrates and fat is actually more beneficial to protein synthesis and repair. This month, we will explore what you need to enhance your workout including: protein and fluid needs, supplements, recovery snacks and the ideal ratio of carbs-protein-fat. You will also sample several products on the market to boost your energy and keep you fueled throughout the day. Our guest speaker, Jenny Ehrhardt from Turning Pointe Dance & Fitness, will discuss and demo a great new workout that will get your heart pumping. Discover why strong is the new skinny with PiYo LIVE! Inspired by Pilates and yoga, PiYo cranks up the pace and fun - for a pulse-pounding, calorie crushing workout that defines every inch of your body. It's low-impact, yet high-intensity. No weights. No jumps. Just hardcore results. Don't miss the last class of the Healthy Lifestyles that Last series! The next series won't start again until September.
