1 Hy-Vee large egg
1 c. Hy-Vee milk or Baraboo beer
1 tbsp. Hy-Vee canola oil
1 c. Hy-Vee flour
1 tsp. Hy-Vee baking powder
¼ tsp. Hy-Vee salt
large yellow onions
Hy-Vee canola oil, for frying

Directions

  1. Whisk egg in a large bowl. Whisk in milk and oil. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt, beating until smooth. Cover and set aside.
  2. While batter rests, slice onions and separate into rings.
  3. Heat canola oil to 375 degrees.
  4. Dip onions into batter. Carefully drop into hot oil and fry until golden brown, flipping halfway through. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel lined baking sheet.
