    Almond butter provides a slightly sweet flavor for this classic appetizer. This recipe uses it in place of tahini, the sesame seed paste used in traditional recipes. Try this as a heart-healthy dip or sandwich spread.

    1 (15 oz) can cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
    ⅓ c. plus 1 tbsp almond butter
    3 tbsp. lemon juice
    ½ tsp. salt, optional
    2 tbsp. olive oil
    Pita chips, optional
    Fresh vegetables, including carrots, bell peppers and jicama, cut into strips, optional

    Directions

    1. Combine all ingredients in blender or food processor and blend to a smooth, creamy consistency. If too thick, add 1 teaspoon of warm water or chickpea liquid at a time and blend until desired consistency. Refrigerate until serving.
    2. Serve almond butter hummus with pita chips or fresh vegetables.
